Student FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about limited access to Library services
What are the library hours?
The library is open for limited access in 1 hour increments per day, with a limit of 15 guests at a time, starting on August 24. The updated library hours can be found here. All guests are asked to follow campus safety guidelines including wearing a mask and maintaining social distance. Please check the Library's reopening guidelines for details.
How can I get a Laptop or other device to do my classwork from Moraine Valley?
Registered students can request laptops or iPads for the spring semester by selecting the link found in MV connect under Students- Forms- Information Technology- Loaner Technology Requests (Library). iPads are not compatible with honor lock. Only one device per student.
When students check out the new laptops , they are required to sign-in on the college's WiFi first. Then they will have to complete the second part of the sign in process on their home wifi network. Click here for the Instructions to the sign-in process. Laptops are not eligible for curbside pickup.
Laptops and iPads used for the spring semester are checked out until Friday, May 21st.
How can I checkout a Wi-Fi Hotspot from Moraine Valley?
Registered spring semester students can request a time to check out a Hotspot for the spring semester by selecting the link found in MV connect under Students- Forms- Information Technology- Loaner Technology Requests (Library). Once the request is submitted, a staff member will place the item on hold. Hotspots for spring semester students are checked out until Friday, May 21st.
I have items checked out from the library, what should I do?
General collection items, (books, magazines, DVDs and CDs) and electronics can be returned in the library during regular business hours. You can return items (not laptops or other technology) in the book drop outside of the L Building.You can check your library account to view the items still checked out to you. If you have a laptop or iPad return, you can return it in person during library hours. For more information, contact the circulation desk at (708) 974-5235 or email email@example.com. I checked out an iPad or Laptop from the college. When is it due and how do I return it?
If you are currently enrolled in a fall semester class and you have an iPad or laptop have checked out, you can return it anytime after your class has ended. If you are still considering enrolling in the spring, your electronic device will be extended until Monday, January 11th. If you register for the Spring semester by Friday, January 8th, your electronic device will be automatically renewed until Friday, May 21st.
If you do not register for spring semester classes by Monday, January 11th, you will be required to return the electronic device by that date. Please visit and return the item in the library during business hours. You can also coordinate a drop off time by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, calling (708) 974-5235, or if you require assistance you can reserve a curbside drop off time in Libcal. Staff will arrange a day and time to drop off items at the 107th St. side of the L building.
How can I access Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Power Point online?
Students can access Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and more by using the online version. The guide detailing the steps can be accessed by clicking this link.
Can I still get help from a librarian?
Librarians are available online and in the library 7 days/week. Contact us on the Library Ask A Librarian Page. Starting August 24, students can set up individual research sessions with librarians with this online form.
Can I still check out books from the library?
Yes, but our collection is closed to browsing. Students, staff, and faculty can place items on hold and pick them up at the circulation desk in our library. Search the library catalog and then click on the “request it” button. We will grab the item from our shelves and have it ready for pick up.
Our curbside service will also be available and we will coordinate a pick up time with you if you request this service. Textbook and reserve collection materials will not be eligible for curbside pickup. For curbside pickup service you can call (708) 974-5235, email email@example.com or by requesting the curbside option in libcal after receiving email confirmation that your holds are ready to be picked up. Can I still check out a textbook or anatomy model to take home?
Our textbook collection is currently unavailable. Contact your faculty member for textbook support.

How can I find an electronic article for my research?
I don’t want to come into the building, how will I return items that I have borrowed?
You may place items in the Library’s outdoor book drop outside the north entrance to the L building facing 107th street. Please do not put electronics in the drop box, these will need to be returned through our curbside service or in person to the circulation desk or by reserving a curbside dropoff time in Libcal. Are Interlibrary loans still available?
Interlibrary Loan materials can be ordered on our ILL Order page. If you need an extension please contact Sue Yach, email@example.com to see if your request can be accommodated.
Can I access material my instructor put on physical reserve without entering the library?
Some reserve items are available for check out and can be picked up at the circulation desk or using our curbside service. Textbooks are not available for check out at this time. Please contact your Faculty member if you are having issues purchasing your textbooks for your course.
How will you share information about the Library and Campus re-openings and changes to schedules?
Official information about campus closures and reopenings will be sent by the College through email. Information will also be shared via the college and library’s social media feeds.
Do you have Wi-Fi hotspots to check out?
The Library has a limited number of wi-fi hotspots to check out. Please contact the circulation desk at circulation@morainevalley or by calling 708-974-5235 to see if any are available.
How do I find information about campus services?
